This year’s AFL finals series just continues to deliver with Seven’s coverage of Richmond’s hard-fought win over St Kilda in last night’s Second Semi Final attracting an average national audience of 1.043 million.
The match was a success in Melbourne with Seven’s average audience of 552,000 up 23 per cent on last year’s Friday night Semi Final between Geelong and West Coast – and the biggest Melbourne audience for any final so far in 2020.
As Tigers superstars Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin and Tom Lynch led their team into its fourth consecutive preliminary final, Seven recorded an average metro audience of 802,000 – 36 per cent up on the network’s Friday night average in 2020.
The AFL continues to drive audience growth in Sydney and Brisbane, with Friday night’s viewer numbers in both capital cities up by two per cent year on year.
In addition to the free-to-air audience, the match also secured a national average pay-tv audience on Fox Footy of 267,000 (streaming platforms not included).
The result means the combined audience across Seven and Fox Footy secured a national audience of 1.310 million.
