AFL domination over NRL helps SEVEN claim yet another ratings week

The Seven Network has continued its recent ratings resurgence, claiming victory in week 28.

Nine was ahead for much of the week in network share, but strong numbers for the AFL and relatively low numbers for the NRL allowed Seven to move ahead and claim its fifth consecutive victory.

With finals quickly approaching, MasterChef Australia continued to dominate as the number 1 entertainment program.

  • Sunday – 1.27 million viewers nationally. 978k Metro
  • Monday – 1.27 million viewers nationally. 966k Metro
  • Tuesday – 1.26 million viewers nationally. 949k Metro

Have You Been Paying Attention? also continued its above average performance this year with 1.02 million viewers nationally. 767k metro.

Sunday night’s episode of The Voice was the most-watched entertainment program on Nine. The network would be somewhat disappointed with how viewership has declined for this series as it moves towards finals.

  • Sunday – 1.131 mil National (Metro: 809k).
  • Monday – 1.082 National (789k metro)
  • Tuesday – 982k National (703k metro)

The premiere episode of Emergency performed reasonably well for Nine attracting a national average audience of 773,000 (Metro: 544k).

Big Brother continued to perform strongly in the younger demos for Seven.

  • Sunday – 1.036 Mil National (695k)
  • Monday – 972k (664k)
  • Tuesday – 982k (695k)

Thursday night’s Geelong v Brisbane AFL match was the top sport of the week, scoring an audience of 772k national / 581k metro on Seven/7mate.

By comparison, Thursdays Cowboy v Roosters NRL match had a metro audience of 314k for Nine/9Gem.

It was a similar story on Friday night with Collingwood v Hawthorn drawing a national audience of 757k national (573k metro) on Seven and 7mate.

The Rabbitohs v Tigers match had a national audience of 506k (307k metro) on Nine/9Gem.

7NEWS was the top show nationally every night, with Monday­Friday at 6pm averaging 1.820m national/ 1.177m metro. Nine News was the winner in Sydney and Melbourne, but Seven claimed a rare win in Brisbane

Sunrise continued its dominance at breakfast, winning every morning, with Monday-Friday averaging 463k national / 267k. ABC News Breakfast finished in second place (averaged across two channels) with Today in third.

Home and Away was the top Australian drama averaging 1.036m national / 643k metro Monday-Thursday. Operation Buffalo on ABC delivered a Sunday night audience of 702k [463k metro)

Better Homes and Gardens was the top lifestyle show, with an audience of 895k national / 544k metro. The second episode of rebooted The Living Room delivered 574k national / 423k metro for 10
