Emmy Award winner Matthew Rhys stars in the highly anticipated new series PERRY MASON, streaming on Foxtel NOW and screening on Fox SHOWCASE from Monday, June 22 at 11.00am AEST, express from the US.

Set in 1931 Los Angeles, the series focuses on the origins of American fiction’s most legendary criminal defence lawyer Perry Mason, based on Erle Stanley Gardner’s novels. Living as a low-rent private investigator, Mason is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and suffering the effects of a broken marriage.

L.A. is booming while the rest of the country recovers from the Great Depression – but a kidnapping gone very wrong leads to Mason exposing a fractured city as he uncovers the truth of the crime.

Joining Rhys as Perry Mason is a stunning ensemble cast, including John Lithgow as E.B. Jonathan, a personal attorney at the lowest point in his career and a semi-regular employer of Perry Mason. Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) plays Sister Alice, the leader of the Radiant Assembly of God.

Chris Chalk, Shea Whigham, Juliet Rylance, Nate Corddry, Veronica Falcon, Jefferson Mays, Gayle Rankin, Lili Taylor, Andrew Howard, Robert Patrick and Stephen Root also feature.

Timothy Van Patten – whose directing credits include the Game of Thrones pilot along with episodes of The SopranosBoardwalk Empire, Sex and the City, The Wire, The PacificRome and Deadwood – directs and executive produces the series.

The series is executive produced by: Amanda Burrell, Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Ron Fitzgerald, Joe Horacek, Rolin Jones and Timothy Van Patten. Co-executive producer Aida Rodgers; producer Matthew Rhys; created by Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald; based on the characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner.

Perry Mason is an HBO series. It is available to watch on FOX SHOWCASE and to stream for Foxtel subscribers On Demand via internet connected IQ boxes, on smartphones and tablets using the Foxtel GO app and via Foxtel NOW.
