The 10 Network has confirmed plans to launch a new entertainment focussed multi-channel in coming months.

Details on the new channel remain vague however Michael Lallo in the SMH is reporting the new channel will likely have a broad format similar to its 10 Peach and 10 Bold multi-channels – not a narrow theme such as SBS Food.

Last year TV Blackbox’s Steve Molk reported 10 was exploring plans to utilise MTV reality content for a potential fourth channel.

Last week, 10’s parent company ViacomCBS secured an extended contract to continue supplying first-run MTV and Nickelodeon programming to Foxtel. However, the door remains open for 10 to utilise older MTV library content on free-to-air.

10 recently added a 6-hour programming block of Nickelodeon library content to its 10Peach channel.

In an interview with Max Mason in the Australian Financial Review, 10’s chief sales officer Rod Prosser confirmed the new channel was on its way;

“This is exciting for us; it’s a great option for us to get more content out there,”

“As we do with our other channels, we’ll call content from various sources, but you’d expect us to utilise the content that’s within our greater family.”

In an interview with SMH, 10’s executive vice president and chief content officer, Beverley McGarvey added;

“It’s fair to say we will maintain our strategy of serving audiences with general entertainment for under-50s,”

10 is presenting a mid-year upfront event this morning where it will present to advertisers its programming slate for the remainder of 2020.

The new entertainment channel is expected to launch in the second half of the calendar year.
