With the bulk of the Australian public now stuck at home, Foxtel has begun contacting Sport subscribers, who don’t already have the Movies pack, to let them know they will have access to Foxtel’s full selection of movie channels and movies on demand until 30 June at no extra charge.

The move means all existing Foxtel sports subscribers will now have access to 10 dedicated movie channels including: Movies Premiere, Movies Action, Movies Comedy, Movies Drama, Movies Romance, Movies Thriller, Movies Hits, Movies Greats, Movies Family and Movies Kids and Movies Ultra HD.

Confirming the movie bonus, Foxtel CEO, Patrick Delany told TV Blackbox;

“As Sport subscribers stay safe and settle in at home, we want to make sure they all get to experience the amazing depth and breadth of our movie offering.”

“We know nothing replaces live sport but we believe the combination of sports archive specials, new documentaries, pop-up channels and live shows together with access to all our movies is a real alternative.”

The new movie deal adds to last week’s initiative to make Foxtel’s full range of Drama, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Documentaries, Reality and Kids TV channels and on demand libraries available to all customers at no extra charge.  All customers also have access to Multiscreen on us, which gives them the ability to cast Foxtel GO on up to two additional screens.

With the need to stay informed, Sky News continued to dominate the ratings over the weekend across Linear and VOD.  Across all Foxtel platforms, Sky News LIVE was the #1 most streamed programme of the last 7 days, up +72% from pre-isolation (two weeks ago).

Video On-Demand is still growing across the Foxtel platform.  This weekend (Fri-Sun) was up +64% from last weekend and +72% from pre-isolation (two weeks ago).  As more parents and children need to be entertained in the home, Foxtel has seen demand for the KIDS genre up +34.9%.

While the vast bulk of the worlds live sport is now on hold, Foxtel sports subscribers will continue access to a refreshed line up of content including:

  • Live shows including FOX FOOTY Live, FOX LEAGUE Live, the Late Show with Matty Johns plus new episodes of Bounce and The Fan.

  • Re-calls of some of the greatest AFL and NRL matches from the past across the weekend with live commentary from our team of experts across FOX FOOTY and FOX LEAGUE.

  • Documentaries including the premiere of the eight-part Supercars docu-series Inside Line – A Season with Erebus Motorsport.

  • Themed pop up channels, such as Great Aussie Wins and The Masters with Fight Week and Rafa and Roger week coming soon.

“Sports fans around the world are all facing the same problem but I can assure them that live sport will be back and FOX SPORTS will remain Australia’s home of sport.” added Delany.

With the Sport code suspensions, Australian horse racing and harness racing is one of last organised sports still operating after shutdown rules were put in place. Sky Racing: Live Raceday Saturday was the most watched episode event on the platform across the weekend (excluding Sky News) with a 64,957 average audience.

Foxtel has also acknowledged the long wait times currently being experienced by many customers looking to adjust their entertainment packages during the lockdown.

The influx of calls has created major challenges for call centres which currently very short staffed as a result of restrictions put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19.  A spokesperson for Foxtel telling TV Blackbox;

“Fixing this situation is our number one priority and we are working around the clock to get our call centres back up to full strength.”
