Breakfast TV is no longer a two-horse race plus Seven are left wondering why News programs are beating MY KITCHEN RULES… and then there’s channel 10’s ongoing woes. Week 11 didn’t offer many surprises but did show developing trends.

Married at First Sight once again led Nine to a network victory this week. Nine’s share was up week-on-week, sitting at 32.8% (up from 31.2% the previous week), while the Seven Network remained steady at 28.0% (down by 0.2%) and the ABC held onto third position with 17.6% (down 0.4%). Network 10’s woes continue, sitting in fourth position with 14.8% (down from 15.4%) and SBS had 6.8% (down from 7.2%).

2019 RATINGS CHART – WEEKS 1 TO 11

*OFFICIAL RATINGS PERIOD

In primary channel shares Channel 10 suffered another humiliation with just 9.4%. No matter how you spin it, falling under 10% is simply not good enough. CBS has not turned into the white knight everyone expected them to be. Nine took the top spot with 24% followed by Seven on 19.3% and the ABC on 12.5%.

WEEK 11 RATINGS

Married at First Sight took the top 4 positions of week 11, which has become par for the course. Nine has done a terrific job with the franchise this year and that has led to a halo effect for the network.

Seven must be shaking their heads at the massive fall My Kitchen Rules has taken, even failing to outrate the 6pm news offerings.

Travel Guides continues to perform strong for Nine while 10 only had one appearance in the top 25 shows of the week with Gogglebox once again coming to the rescue.

BATTLEZONES – BREAKFAST

As the TODAY show continues to crumble ABC News Breakfast has become a legitimate threat. The figures in the chart below combine the simulcast audience of ABC and ABC 24, which is legitimate as it is a true national simulcast (allowing all viewers around the country to watch the show live).

Sunrise continues to dominate but on Wednesday the ABC offering beat TODAY nationally with 265,000. The margin was only 1,000 viewers but it is significant. If this happens in the metro figures then it really is game over for the all-new TODAY.

And the hits kept coming on Wednesday over an editorial decision made during its coverage of the George Pell sentencing. Just six minutes into the judge’s comments Nine cut away from the feed and crossed to three reporters to talk about the sentencing, instead of actually showing it.

That decision gave morning TV show Studio 10 a significant boost as viewers went looking for an alternative. On Wednesday the show rated 72,000 but resumed normal programming on Thursday with 52,000.

BATTLEZONES – NEWS

7 News took line honours nationally but 9 News won Sydney and Melbourne. It was a big week for 7 News Adelaide celebrating its 500th successive weekly win in survey. According to Seven, the 500-week record is the longest running victory on record of any news bulletin in Adelaide. The winning sequence started in August 2006.

BATTLEZONES – 7PM

A Current Affair was Australia’s most watched show at 7pm followed by ABC News. Home and Away remains competitive but The Project is in serious trouble, coming fourth in the slot with only 410,000 viewers.
