Prepare to fall in love with THE GOOD DOCTOR with Seven announcing today that it has acquired the rights to broadcast this compelling medical drama taking the US by storm.

Premiering later this month on Seven, THE GOOD DOCTOR stars (Freddie Highmore, Bates Motel) as Shaun Murphy, a gifted, young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome. Shaun relocates from a quiet country life when he is recruited to join the pediatric surgical unit at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun struggles as he deals with the traditional social interaction in the workplace, but is brilliantly intuitive when it comes to medical diagnosis and human physiology. He uses his extraordinary medical skills to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues.

Filmed in Vancouver, Canada, this touching drama also stars Richard Schiff (The West Wing) as Dr Aaron Glassman, Hill Harper (CSI: NY) as Dr Marcus Andrew and Beau Garrett (Entourage) as Jessica Preston.

Based on the 2013 Korean format of the same name David Shore (House) is the writer and executive producer of the series. Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-O, Lost), David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers. Seth Gordon directed the pilot and is also an executive producer. The series is produced by Shore Z Productions and 3 AD in association with Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.

Seven’s Director of Programming, Angus Ross, said: “THE GOOD DOCTOR is deservedly the biggest drama of the new US season. It is a hopeful, feel good and triumphant medical drama that feels right in the sweet spot for Seven’s traditional drama audience.”

In the US, the series ranks as the top new broadcast drama this season with more than 11 million people watching the series premiere live, and a whopping 5.5 million increase in Live+3 viewing, leading to the announcement of a full-season pickup after just two episodes.
