David Tennant lends his voice to ABC’s new three-part documentary Ages of Ice, following scientists as they investigate Earth’s frozen extremes and what they reveal about our planet’s future.
First announced in February 2025, the Northern Pictures production was co-commissioned by ABC and PBS, with Tennant later revealed as narrator, before premiering on PBS in the US in September.

The ABC is thrilled to announce that the three-part documentary series Ages of Ice will launch at 8pm, Tuesday 3 November on ABC TV and ABC iview.
Produced by Emmy Award-winning Northern Pictures (Love on the Spectrum) and narrated by acclaimed actor David Tennant, Ages of Ice is a high-stakes journey into Earth’s frozen wilderness.
Following researchers as they push the boundaries of exploration, each mission is a step toward understanding how glaciers move, how oceans rise, and how the rhythms of the past compare to the quickening tempo of today.
Combining epic adventure, frontline science and deeply human stories, Ages of Ice reveals the polar regions not as distant wilderness, but as dynamic living systems that shape our climate, oceans and future.
From the icesheets of Greenland and Antarctica, to the polar seas of the Arctic and Southern Ocean, this series shows Earth’s extremes, where every new scientific finding has the power to transform our understanding of the world we call home.
