Journalist and presenter Charlotte Goodlet has departed Seven Perth, moving from the newsroom into a new career in corporate communications.
Goodlet joined Seven in February 2024 after moving back to her home state of Western Australia with her family, taking on reporting duties with the Perth newsroom and becoming the network’s weekend weather presenter.
Revealing in a recent LinkedIn post that she departed Seven in July, Goodlet has now joined the communications team at Australian mining giant Fortescue, marking a move from journalism into corporate communications.
“I’ve traded digging for stories for digging iron ore,” Goodlet wrote, adding that she would leave the actual digging “to the experts”.
“After more than a decade in television, it’s a big change.”
“I won’t lie, starting in a whole new industry while also juggling three kids aged three and under at home felt quite daunting, but I’m loving it already.”
Goodlet took maternity leave from Seven in July last year after presenting her final weather bulletin, with Tim McMillan and Adrian Barich farewelling her on air before she welcomed twins Clara and Hugo in August.
Goodlet also reflected on the move away from television:
“There’s a lot for this former TV journo to learn, but I’m so grateful to still be doing what I love, telling stories that matter,” she wrote.
Goodlet’s move comes as television newsrooms continue to face budget pressures and changing staffing models, with a number of experienced journalists and presenters moving into similar communications roles.
She had previously spent more than five years with Network 10 in Sydney, where she worked across news and weather, following earlier roles in television with the ABC and Nine.
