A detective hoping to reconnect with his daughter finds himself investigating a series of killings in 7plus crime drama A Taste For Murder.

The Italian island of Capri provides the setting for murder, family tensions and an unexpected police partnership in A Taste For Murder, a six-part crime drama premiering on 7plus.

Warren Brown (Luther, The Responder) stars as DCI Joe Mottram, a detective who steps away from work after the sudden death of his wife, Sofia.

His sabbatical takes him to Italy with his teenage daughter, Angelica, played by Beau Gadsdon, as he attempts to repair their relationship and spend time with family.

The trip is supposed to give Joe a break from police work, with his in-laws, chef Gennaro, played by Urbano Barberini, and Elena Da Vinale, played by Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey, Outlander), welcoming Joe and Angelica to their seaside restaurant.

That plan changes when the body of a local man is discovered on a beach.

Gennaro’s nephew and sous-chef, Luca, played by Alessandro Fella, is arrested for murder, drawing Joe back into an investigation despite his intention to stay away from police work.

His involvement brings him into conflict with local Inspector Lara Sarrancino, played by Cristiana Dell’Anna (Gomorrah, Cabrini).

As further murders occur around the island, Joe and Lara reluctantly begin working together, investigating a series of unusual crimes.

Away from the cases, Joe also spends time in the kitchen with Gennaro and Elena. The lessons improve his cooking while also giving him unexpected insights and clues connected to his investigations.

The cases gradually expose secrets among the people around them, with the investigation building towards a revelation that affects Joe’s life.

A Taste For Murder was created and written by Matt Baker, with Jon Jones directing the series and Megan Ott serving as producer.

The drama also places Joe’s family relationships alongside the murder investigations, as his attempt to reconnect with Angelica becomes entwined with events surrounding his extended family in Italy.

What begins as a summer away from policing therefore develops into another series of investigations for Joe, while his uneasy working relationship with Lara becomes central to solving the crimes unfolding on the island.

A Taste For Murder premieres Wednesday, 30 September, streaming from 6.00pm exclusively on 7plus.
