The Walsh Sisters is returning for a second season, with Stan once again holding the exclusive Australian rights to the Marian Keyes adaptation.

Deadline first reported that Ireland’s public broadcaster RTÉ has renewed the Irish comedy-drama for a second six-part season, with the BBC also returning to screen the series in the UK, alongside Stan in Australia.

Production is now underway on the six-part second season, with a newly released image (main picture) showing the five sisters back together.

Caroline Menton, Danielle Galligan, Máiréad Tyers, Stefanie Preissner and Louisa Harland will reprise their roles as Rachel, Claire, Helen, Maggie and Anna Walsh.

Aidan Quinn and Carrie Crowley will also return as the sisters’ parents, Daddy and Mammy Walsh, alongside new cast members Peter Coonan, Aislín McGuckin, Art Campion and Fay Ripley.

The new season will see Rachel continue her recovery, while Claire challenges expectations around motherhood and Maggie’s plans for the perfect family take an unexpected turn.

Helen becomes increasingly protective of her sisters as she deals with her own emotional wellbeing, while Anna looks for unusual ways to move on from heartbreak.

Stefanie Preissner returns as creative lead and writer, with the new season based on Keyes’ novels The Mystery of Mercy Close and Angels.

Cuba Pictures executive producer Dixie Linder says season two will explore more of the “wonderfully messy lives” that have made the Walsh sisters so compelling.

“The new season allows us to explore even more of what makes the Walsh sisters so compelling as they each face new challenges, while never losing sight of the humour and fierce love at the heart of the family.”

Stan first secured the exclusive Australian rights to The Walsh Sisters in May 2025, ahead of the first season’s local premiere in January 2026, with Keyes noting the strong support she has received from Australian readers while touring the country at the time.

Season one of The Walsh Sisters is now streaming in full on Stan in Australia.

A premiere date has yet to be announced for season two.
