SBS has today appointed Catalina Flórez as the new weekend presenter of SBS World News, with the experienced journalist stepping into the role next month.
Flórez will present the flagship 6.30pm bulletin on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 October while continuing to report on major domestic and international stories for SBS, with Janice Petersen continuing to present from Sunday to Thursday.
Joining SBS in 2020, Flórez arrived after a 12-year career in commercial television, including as a Canberra Press Gallery correspondent and the first female NSW Political Editor at 10 News.
She has since regularly presented SBS World News and SBS Late News, alongside her work as a senior journalist and foreign correspondent.
Her reporting has included the 2025 inauguration of US President Donald Trump in Washington and the aftermath of twin earthquakes in Venezuela, while her investigations for Dateline have included gaining entry to El Salvador’s CECOT maximum security prison.
Flórez takes over from Anton Enus, who signed off from SBS World News for the final time last Friday after more than 25 years with the network.
In a statement, Flórez said stepping into the role was a childhood dream come true.
“It’s an incredible honour to follow in the footsteps of the greats who’ve come before me.”
She also paid tribute to Enus, calling him “a national treasure” and thanking him for being a mentor, colleague and friend.
