Seven will premiere Dennis Cometti: Centimetre Perfect, a feature-length documentary looking back at the life and career of Australian sports broadcaster Dennis Cometti, during AFL Grand Final Week.

The Seven Sport production has been more than 12 months in the making and will examine Cometti’s broadcasting career, which spanned more than four decades.

Across that career, Cometti became known for a commentary style built around distinctive turns of phrase, timing and humour, particularly through his work covering Australian sport.

The documentary features Mark Cometti, who reflects on growing up as Dennis Cometti’s son, alongside Olympic champions Kieren Perkins and Susie O’Neill, who discuss his approach to capturing the emotion of elite sport.

A number of prominent broadcasters and AFL figures also contribute, including Bruce McAvaney, Eddie McGuire, Sandy Roberts, Basil Zempilas, Nick Riewoldt, Chris Judd and Bob Murphy.

According to Seven, the documentary uses previously untold stories, memorable commentary calls and personal reflections to explore Cometti’s career, creativity and character, as well as the connection he developed with Australian sports audiences.

The network describes the program as a tribute to a broadcaster whose voice became closely associated with Australian sport over his lengthy career.

Dennis Cometti: Centimetre Perfect is produced by Seven Sport for the Seven Network.

The production team is led by Director of Sport Chris Jones and Executive Producer Gary O’Keeffe, with Supervising Producer Cassie Treagus and producers Josh Sim, Jarvis Hunder and Josh Kay.
