With the arrival of August, Optus Sport gears up for the much-anticipated return of the Premier League. This year, fans can look forward to a range of exciting fixtures, all broadcast live and exclusively on the platform.
Kicking off the season, Optus Sport will air the traditional Community Shield match, a prelude to the main event. The match will feature last season’s Premier League champions, Manchester City, against Manchester United, the FA Cup winners. This face-off is scheduled for midnight on Sunday, 11 August, at Wembley Stadium.
The Premier League season officially begins on Saturday, 17 August, with Manchester United hosting Fulham at Old Trafford. The match is set to start at 5 am. Later the same day, Liverpool will visit Ipswich Town, who are returning to the Premier League with Australian players Cameron Burgess and Massimo Luongo in their ranks. This match will kick off at 9:30 pm.
A standout match in the opening weekend will see Chelsea take on Manchester City on Monday, 19 August. Following closely, Ange Postecoglou will lead Tottenham into their second season under his guidance, starting with a game against Leicester City on Tuesday, 20 August, at 5 am.
Manchester United will play their second match against Brighton on Saturday, 24 August, at 9:30 pm, a convenient time for Australian viewers. The following week, Arsenal will also face Brighton at the same time slot.
In addition to the Premier League, Optus Sport will cover international football, including the J.League, where Socceroo Mitch Duke aims to lead Machida Zelvia in their surprising campaign. Meanwhile, the NWSL will see action with Houston playing Orlando and Utah facing Bay FC on Saturday, 24 August.
