TV Blackbox can now reveal award-winning journalist Dimity Clancey is set to be named as one of two new reporters joining the cast of 60 Minutes.
Currently an investigative reporter for A Current Affair, the Walkley Award-winning journalist is now set to become a high-profile star for the network after securing the coveted role on 60 Minutes.
Her move to 60 Minutes comes after two highly successful guest reporting stints on the show in 2023, coupled with her recent role as a guest host on ACA over the summer.
The promotion is part of a larger strategy by Channel 9 to inject new vitality into 60 Minutes with two fresh faces in 2024, aiming to infuse a youthful and dynamic energy into the renowned current affairs show.
Last week, TV Blackbox revealed Melbourne-based 9News journalist Adam Hegarty is also expected to join the 60 Minutes reporting team in 2024.
The formal announcement regarding these new appointments is expected to be made at an upcoming media event in Melbourne this Friday.
60 Minutes, a cornerstone of current affairs television, is revamping its team following the departure of Tom Steinfort, who transitions to the 6pm newsreader role in Melbourne, and Sarah Abo, who is now concentrating on her role as a presenter for Today.
Clancey’s career trajectory with Nine Network has been remarkable since her joining in 2010. Initially covering crime stories, she quickly established a reputation for her tenacity in chasing stories, confronting wrongdoers, and advocating for the vulnerable. Her reporting has spanned a wide range of significant events, from the pursuit of Malcolm Naden to covering natural disasters and international news.
Her move to A Current Affair in 2016 marked a new chapter, where she gained recognition for her exclusive on Malcolm Naden, earning her the Walkley Award. This was followed by another nomination for a Walkley Award the next year for her investigation into Dr. Emil Gayed’s misconduct. In 2020, Clancey was honoured with the Kennedy Award for Outstanding Nightly Current Affairs Reporting, focusing on prescription drug abuse.
Clancey’s work at A Current Affair has had a profound impact, including resolving a longstanding police investigation, leading to the dismissal of a school teacher for misconduct, and spurring legislative changes to protect vulnerable groups.
Such a well deserved appointment. Congrats Dimity!
