Former Collingwood footballer and Brownlow medallist Dane Swan is set to host a new food-themed television show, Taste Buds with Dane Swan, set to premiere on 7Mate in April next year.
Swan, who has transitioned from a celebrated AFL career to a successful pub and bar owner, began filming the show last week in Melbourne, marking a new direction in his post-football life.
Swan shared details of his latest venture on his podcast, Hump Day with Swanny and Friends. He expressed that this new role is a departure from his comfort zone. “It’s a different Dane Swan you’re going to see,” he stated.
He admitted that hosting a show is a new experience for him, as he is more accustomed to being on the receiving end of questions.
The show will feature Swan exploring various Melbourne eateries and culinary hotspots. He mentioned his aim to bring a mix of food and humour to the screen. “It’s going to be a very easy watch, little bit of great food, humour,” Swan said, highlighting the show’s casual and entertaining approach.
Swan also humorously hinted at aspirations for television accolades with his new project. “My goal obviously next year is to be the best new talent at the Logies,” he joked, leveraging his strong following from his football days. He quipped about potentially embarrassing himself but showed enthusiasm for trying something new and engaging with people in a different setting.
In his podcast, Swan revealed a candid mix of excitement and apprehension about his new role as a TV host.
“I’m not too proud to embarrass myself or try something different. I enjoy getting out and meeting people and having a beer.
Now it’s just trying to figure out how to host a show. Hopefully (there are) four episodes and hopefully it goes ok,”
Great, just what we need, an ex-jock and ANOTHER damn cooking show!
Looking forward to watching this with my work colleagues
