In news first shared on Facebook today by News Breakfast co-host Michael Rowland, current ABC Indigenous Affairs Editor Bridget Brennan has been appointed to the newsreader position on the breakfast news program.
The post on Facebook from Michael Rowland from today reads:
“Big news!”
“From Monday, the fabulous Bridget Brennan joins News Breakfast in the role of newsreader. Bridget will also be co-hosting with me at least one day a week while Lisa works on other ABC projects.”
“Bridget, a Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman, is one of the ABC’s finest journalists and I know you will all warmly welcome her as a fantastic addition to Australia’s best breakfast show!”
Bridget, formerly the ABC’s Europe Correspondent in London and the National Indigenous Affairs Correspondent has been with the public broadcaster for around 12 years and has featured on various programs including Four Corners, The Drum and Insiders.
She was recently front and centre of the ABC’s referendum night coverage, anchoring the Australia Votes program alongside David Speers and Dan Bourchier, impressing audiences with her reporting and coverage of the The Voice to Parliament throughout the campaign.
Bridget joins the news program as the second Indigenous Australian (a Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman) in the hosting line-up, following former AFL player turned sports presenter Tony Armstrong who joined the show in 2021.
The news also follows the recent announcement that Finance Presenter Madeleine Morris was set to depart the program after 4 years on the show to take a break, spend more time with her children and pursue other opportunities using her 20 years experience as a Journalist in other ways.
Bridget’s appointment on the show is effective from Monday 6th November.
