Channel 7 has declined to clarify the future of one of its television programmes after a woman featured on it was slapped with a series of severe criminal charges, including rape and extensive child abuse offences.
The Queensland Courier Mail is reporting that the allegations stretch over a decade and are centred in multiple regions across Queensland.
The woman, whose identity is legally protected and thus cannot be disclosed, is up against a myriad of charges.
These include several counts of indecent treatment of children under 16, multiple counts of rape, as well as charges of sexual assault, torture, and other forms of assault. An additional charge specifies the creation of an “indecent film.”
Her partner is also implicated, facing numerous assault charges. Authorities assert that the illegal activities took place between 2005 and 2020.
The Saturday Courier-Mail reached out to Channel 7 for a statement regarding the future of the television show and the allegations against the couple. The network opted not to comment on whether the show would continue in its current form or be altered in some way.
Further inquiries about the duration of Channel 7’s awareness of these accusations were also met with silence. Lawyers for the network only responded with explanations of Queensland laws, failing to address the specific issues at hand.
Interestingly, Seven News aired a segment covering the allegations, but omitted any mention of the individual’s appearance on their network.
On the legal front, the man has been granted police bail and is slated to make an appearance in Richlands Magistrates Court in September.
Meanwhile, the woman has also been released on bail under specific conditions, including residence at a designated address and restricted contact with certain individuals. She is scheduled to appear before Richlands Magistrates Court in October.
As of now, Channel 7 remains tight-lipped, leaving a state of uncertainty over the show’s future and the network’s ethical standpoints.
