MasterChef Australia proved its culinary reign on television once again, with Brent Draper’s victory in the 2023 season finale, captivating 1.04 million Australians and outperforming all competition.
According to Network 10, the winner announcement peaked at 1.09 million viewers nationally, while the grand finale drew in 900,000 viewers, peaking at 1.06 million, making it 37% larger than its closest competition. Both the Winner Announced and Grand Finale ranked as the top two shows of the night in the under 50s, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s demographics.
This season saw an impressive total national audience of 806,000 across the entire season. The live stream and Broadcast Video on Demand (BVOD) audiences were the highest ever for the series, with the former seeing a 32% year-on-year increase and the latter witnessing a rise of 21%.
The new VOZ ratings system revealed a 27% lift in the total audience on overnights, considering both live stream and BVOD viewership. This growth reflects the expanding power of digital viewers in Australia.
Social media buzz surrounding the show was also significant, with the combined impressions on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter exceeding 108.6 million. The ‘MasterChef Australia’ TikTok account alone garnered 11.3 million video views.
This season held a poignant tone, however, following the sudden and tragic passing of beloved judge Jock Zonfrillo. Dedicated to his memory, the season was a celebration of Zonfrillo’s work, life, and an irrepressible passion for food.
