“Thank God You’re Here,” the cherished comedy improvisation series, is set for a revival on Network 10, with a fresh new trailer unveiled for the forthcoming season.
The 2023 reboot of this iconic show introduces beloved comedian Celia Pacquola as its host, marking a new phase for the Working Dog produced program. The previous iteration of the show, hosted by Shane Bourne, aired on 10 for three seasons from 2006 to 2007 before transitioning to Seven for its brief final season in 2009.
Pacquola expressed her thrill for the upcoming season, stating,
“I’m so excited Thank God You’re Here is coming back, and I’m thrilled to host because that means I’ll be in the best position to watch it.” She quipped about her new role, “I can’t wait to send comedians through the big blue door and not have to go through it myself.”
The premise of Thank God You’re Here remains deceptively simple: well-known performers walk through a door into a scene, without any clue of their character or the situation they are entering.
Despite years of being off-air, clips from the original show continue to generate considerable traction on social media in 2023. The challenge for the producers will be to maintain the interest of the current Tik Tok generation throughout an hour-long programme, given the availability of bite-sized segments online.
Reflecting on the show’s revival, Michael Hirsh from Working Dog said,
“We loved making Thank God You’re Here a few years ago, and feel the time is right for a new bunch of comedians to go through the blue door.”
The Senior Vice President Content & Programming of Paramount ANZ, Daniel Monaghan, added,
“Thank God You’re Here holds a special place in our hearts at Network 10.” He lauded the show for “launching and celebrating a wealth of intelligent, lively and hilarious Australian talent” and welcomed its return.
