An exciting new addition to National NAIDOC Week 2023 programming, Firebite, an eight-part drama from Warwick Thornton, is poised to ignite screens tonight on NITV.
This distinctive series, set in a remote mining town in South Australia’s arid heart, is scheduled for premiere on Thursday, 6 July 2023.
Firebite delivers a fresh take on the vampire genre, incorporating Indigenous narratives in its tale of a 230-year war for land and power.
The plot thickens when the Vampire King, portrayed by Callan Mulvey, descends on the last colonial bastion in an isolated mining town. The task of halting the Vampire King and his bloody reign falls on the shoulders of two Aboriginal renegades, Tyson and Shanika, brilliantly played by Rob Collins and Shantae Barnes-Cowan respectively.
The series will serve as a highlight of the NAIDOC Week 2023 line-up, honouring the history, cultures, and accomplishments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Firebite will make its debut on National Indigenous Television (NITV) and will be available for streaming on SBS On Demand immediately after airing, with new episodes released weekly. This unique series, steeped in Indigenous narratives, is part of a broader commitment to celebrate and spotlight the rich heritage and diversity of Indigenous Australia during NAIDOC Week.
