Cricket enthusiasts are invited to delve into the enduring rivalry between Australian cricket legend Ian Chappell and English all-rounder Ian Botham.
This hour-long special, “The Longest Feud: Chappell v Botham,” airs on Tuesday, 27 June at 7:30 pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
For over five decades, the bitter animosity between Ian Chappell and Ian Botham has been a notable part of sporting folklore. The two cricketing greats have never been able to reconcile their differences, resulting in a feud that has left its mark on the sport.
Amid the 2023 Ashes series on Nine, this programme brings Chappell and Botham together for the first time since their infamous pub fight in February 1977 that sparked their long-standing feud. The face-to-face encounter aims to unpack their entrenched animosity and potentially lay it to rest.
“This Ashes series is the ideal time to delve into what ignited this monumental feud, and why it has endured for so long. It’s intriguing and, in many respects, very confronting,”
said Cos Cardone, CEO of JAMTV, the program’s producers.
According to Cardone, both Ians embody the intense rivalry between Australia and England, taking it a step further by making it personal, real, and raw.
Will the old grudges persist, or can they finally bury the hatchet after 46 years? The answer awaits viewers in “The Longest Feud: Chappell v Botham,” a production by JAMTV for Wide World of Sports.
