Seven Network scores with ICC World Test Championship: Audience surge on 7plus

The Seven Network is savouring a ratings triumph as the broadcast of the ICC World Test Championship Final reaps a viewership bonanza.

The epic face-off, featuring the Australian cricket team and India, held at The Oval in London, has been aired on Channel 7 and its online platform, 7plus.

In the first two days of the gripping five-day test match, 7plus saw a total of 547,000 viewers tuning in during the evening and bedtime hours via their connected TV and mobile devices. This game, which will determine the foremost cricket nation in the world, is an inaugural Australian cricket broadcast on 7plus, excluding the Commonwealth Games.

The ICC World Test Championship commanded attention in its timeslot, securing the top spot in all demographics over Thursday and Friday. Seven Network subsequently dominated the national audience share with a whopping 50.7% on Thursday night.

The first day’s opening session attracted an average of 823,000 viewers, a surge from the average viewership of the first session of the 2019 Ashes Test at The Oval.

Lewis Martin, Seven’s Head of Network Sport and Managing Director of Seven Melbourne, stated,

“The ICC World Test Championship headlines an action-packed week of sports on Seven for fans across Australia.”

He added that the schedule for the long weekend includes unmissable AFL blockbuster matches, racing highlights, and the Big Freeze 9, all in the lead-up to the,

“biggest sporting event of the year, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, on Seven and 7plus from 20 July.”

Kurt Burnette, Chief Revenue Officer at Seven West Media, noted that Seven’s coverage of the ICC World Test Championship has reached over 4.1 million viewers. He added,

“Seven is a destination that has the proven ability to deliver big Australian audiences and big moments for advertisers.”
