Welcome to the second week of Australian Survivor 2023. Here’s a quick recap on the action of the Survivor Australia: Heroes vs Villains, S08 E04.

The sun rises on Day 8 in Samoa, Simon is smelling revenge amongst the ashes after torching George’s hat. Poor old Gerry is hobbling on one ankle, Hayley and Flick are searching for an idol and Rogue is throwing shade at her tribemates. There’s a lot going on.

As both tribes head to the fourth reward challenge, Sammy has flashbacks because today’s challenge is in the exact same spot as the first-ever Australian survivor challenge back in 2016. The castaways are all determined to win with a pizza party on the line.

Maybe it’s the heroes side being full of professional athletes. Maybe it’s the villain’s having absolutely nothing to eat but a giant jar of cookies, I know I definitely feel sluggish after an Easter chocolate fest. The villains bomb and lose to the heroes in straight sets.

The heroes skip back from reward chanting “13 11 16.” But are devasted to find their generic pizzas are frozen. Well… they’re not too devo, after 8 days of beans and rice, frozen pizza looks amazing. No pizza oven? No problem.

David spots a clue in one of the pizza boxes and palms it off to Sammy. Just like Simon, Sammy forgets what pockets are and shoves the clue down his junk… he can keep that.

Up until now, the humble heroes camp has been peaceful. Have you ever lived in a crowded share house with that one annoying housemate that stays up all night blasting loud music and keeps throwing out your milk to make room for their organic almond milk? Rogue is that housemate.

Hayley proposes throwing the challenge to get rid of Rogue as the heroes are finding it harder to talk to her without rolling their eyes. It’s not something we have seen since Survivor Australia: Champions vs Contenders 2019, Season 2. Boy, I love this game.

The heroes have somehow made it to the immunity challenge without catching food poisoning and start their descent to tribal by sitting out their strongest players. Hayley drops like a fly as their final player. The villain’s blink in realisation. Did they just win? That was easy. Meh, a win’s a win. Stevie is celebrating he won the world cup and the villain’s raise their illuminati symbol to the cameras. The villains walk back to their campsite maniacally laughing.

So which hero is going tonight? It should be pretty straightforward. Rogue is getting on everyone’s nerves again with her comments that are blunter than a butter knife. But after watching Hayley throw the challenge, Shaun becomes suspicious of her. She’s too good at this game.

Shaun convinces some of the tribe to hang on to Rogue until next week and vote for Hayley instead. The boys go on a witch hunt and are desperate to an idol find it before Hayley. Shaun finally finds one and like all the men in this game do, he stuffs the idol in his underwear.

It’s episode 4 and I’ve had it up here with the crotch stuffing this year. JLP needs to issue bigger pockets for future castaways.

We go in to tribal holding our breath, is Hayley going to be sent home in her first tribal like past winners Shane and Jericho? Rogue senses her time might be up. Before her tribemates get a chance to break up with her, she makes it clear she’s breaking up with them and decides now is the perfect time to philosophise who exactly is a hero. Short answer? None of her tribe mates. Rogue makes it clear to them that she wants to be voted off the island. She’s sick of her tribe, they’re sick of her and she’s gone.

Hayley smirks. She’s done it. She’s broken the winners curse.

JLP sends the remaining heroes off with his cringy send-off.

“Sometimes we’re all heroes but even a hero can go Rogue.”

2023 Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains season eight – continues Monday at 7.30pm on 10 And 10 Play.

  1. Why was an “animal activist” wearing a fur jacket? Even faux fur sends a bad message. Conclusion, she is NOT an animal activist and gives them a bad name!
