Lucky and Meg will once again hit the open road.

Foxtel has released an official trailer and confirmed a November premiere date for the long-awaited second season of Upright, starring critically acclaimed musician, comedian, actor and writer Tim Minchin (Californication), and Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon).

The promo for the new eight-episode season provides a sneak peek into the epic adventure in store for the misfit duo, reunited after four years when Meg turns up unannounced.

Lucky and Meg hit the road – and the river – on a mission to find Meg’s mum, trading the desert for the steamy tropics of Far North Queensland.

Tim Minchin, Executive Producer, Lead Writer, and star of Upright said:

“For me, the key to unlocking this second season was the idea that time has passed. I was intrigued by who a 17 year old Meg would be, and how she would relate to Lucky.

Of course, four incredibly eventful years have also passed in the real world, during which my costar had become a megastar!

So Milly and I had to discover each other again, too, against the backdrop of real life pandemics, floods, and the ever-ticking clock.

We were so lucky to have the brilliant Mirrah Foulkes steering the metaphorical tinny up the allegorical creek.”

Upright features a stellar returning cast including Heather Mitchell (Love MePalm Beach), Ella Scott Lynch (Amazing GraceThe Code), Daniel Lapaine (CatastropheFive Bedrooms), Daniel Frederiksen (The DryMiss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) and Asmara Feik (The True History of the Kelly GangThe Listies Work for Peanuts). Joining the cast for season two are Australian icon Noni Hazlehurst (June Again, A Place To Call Home), Jessica McNamee (Mortal KombatPacked to the Rafters), Hayley McElhinney (Mystery Road: OriginDoctor Doctor), Darren Gilshenan (How To Stay MarriedStateless), Tom Budge (GallipoliJudy & Punch), Anita Hegh (Total ControlJanet King), Travis Cotton (New Gold Mountain, Neighbours) and Nicholas Brown (The Unlisted).

Upright is a Lingo Pictures production for FOXTEL and Sky UK, with Jason Stephens (Lambs of God) returning as producer. Meg O’Connell (Robbie Hood) also produced, alongside Lingo Pictures’ Helen Bowden (The Secrets She Keeps) as executive producer. Mirrah Foulkes (Judy and Punch) directed the new series. Niki Aken (The Hunting) is script producer, and the writing team included Niki, Ian Meadows (Seachangeand Natesha Somasundaram (The Unlisted). Tim Minchin also wrote, and executive produced the series. Executive producers for FOXTEL are Brian Walsh and Lana Greenhalgh.

Production credit: Upright is a Lingo Pictures production for FOXTEL and Sky UK. Major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen Queensland. Financed with the support of Screen NSW and Cutting Edge. Entertainment One (eOne) is managing international sales.

  1. When will Upright 1 be available in US? Is there a way for a US watcher to watch it on an Australian station?
This show is a must, all over the world… it’s brilliant and habit forming.
    Thx, very jealous Yankee.
