One of Australia’s most popular presenters is at a crossroads in his career as he is forced to choose between television and breakfast radio.

Word is spreading throughout the radio and television industry that Grant Denyer will not be part of Sydney’s 2DAY FM’s breakfast line-up next year, despite taking the struggling timeslot from 2.3% to 4.6% (the highest they’ve had in the 5 years since Kyle and Jackie O left).

TV Blackbox understands there is a fight for Denyer’s limited time between Channel 10 and Southern Cross Austereo, with both wanting the star exclusively.

The breakfast show Denyer hosts with Ed Kavalee and Ash London fell 1.1% in the last survey to just 3.1%, although it should be noted Denyer was off air due to his back injury on his farm.

Chezzie Denyer, Grant’s wife, tells TV Blackbox;

“Grant likes radio and he’s proud of the growth of 2Day FM Breakfast. Although his contract is up at the end of the year, it is a major commitment so we haven’t made any decisions about next year”.

What this means for SCA who have struggled in the breakfast time slot since the departure of Kyle and Jackie O is anyone’s guess. As mentioned above, Denyer has delivered the biggest audience from all the shows that have occupied the slot.

In addition to his daily breakfast show Denyer also hosts Celebrity Name Game for Channel 10 plus was co-host on Dancing With The Stars with Amanda Keller (a breakfast radio rival).

It’s understood radio will still play some part of Denyer’s future, but whether that is with SCA remains to be seen.

Denyer also received television’s highest honour in 2018 as the recipient of the Gold Logie.
