After Ten made the inevitable decision to axe The Biggest Loser Transformed from its primetime schedule on Friday, it now seems likely contestants will indeed be the big losers with no prizes to be awarded.
TEN had hoped the eight week long reality series would fill an import hole in its schedule, instead its become one of the biggest flops in TV history and will cost the network millions of dollars in ‘make goods’ to advertisers.
TEN had promised the Biggest Loser Transformed would crown two winners in 2017; One based on weight loss (like prior seasons) would receive $50,000 for their effort. Viewers would then vote for the contestant who has ‘transformed their life the most’, that winner was to have received $100,000.
The series was to have culminated with a special live broadcast grand finale, however this is now unlikely to occur with TEN burning off the remaining episodes at 1pm weekdays
If the announcement of a winner is not broadcast, TEN could escape its obligation of awarding cash prizes.
From Monday, TEN will be hoping to rebuild its network share by moving episodes of Modern Family, Jamie Oliver, Graham Norton and David Attenborough into its weeknight schedule
TEN has been approached for comment.
Updated 4th April 2017 – A spokesperson for TEN has indicated the network will award the promised prize money stating “Viewers of The Biggest Loser: Transformed will still be able to enjoy the finale, and see the culmination of the incredible transformation of the contestants.” “We will announce the plans for the finale in due course.”
