The Lowdown follows Ethan Hawke as a truth-seeking investigator in a drama series set to premiere exclusively on Disney+.
Disney+ has confirmed an Australian premiere date and released the official trailer for The Lowdown, a new drama series from Sterlin Harjo and starring executive producer Ethan Hawke.
The series will debut on Wednesday, September 24, with the first two instalments of its eight-part season. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly on Disney+.
Created, written and directed by Sterlin Harjo, best known for Reservation Dogs, the show centres on Ethan Hawke as citizen journalist Lee Raybon, a self-styled Tulsa truthstorian whose relentless pursuit of corruption places him at personal risk.
Raybon operates from a rare bookstore that doubles as a community hub, while struggling to balance his investigative drive with the demands of family life. His 14-year-old daughter Francis (played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong) shares his curiosity and desire to be part of his work, while his ex-partner Samantha (Kaniehtiio Horn) remains frustrated by his obsession with uncovering wrongdoing, though supportive of his role as a father.
The narrative intensifies when Raybon publishes an exposé on the influential Washberg family. The report is quickly followed by the apparent suicide of family member Dale Washberg (Tim Blake Nelson). Convinced of deeper corruption, Raybon pursues leads left behind by Dale, uncovering tensions between Dale’s widow Betty Jo (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and gubernatorial candidate Donald Washberg (Kyle MacLachlan).
Raybon also encounters Marty (Keith David), a refined stranger who shares his literary interests and maintains a conspicuous presence during his investigation.
Produced by FX Productions, the series also lists Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke and Ryan Hawke among its executive producers.
