RECAP | The Voice Australia’s Blind Auditions kicked off with a lineup of standout singers impressing all four coaches.

The new season of The Voice Australia has opened on Seven and 7plus, with the Blind Auditions delivering a mix of powerhouse performances and emotional moments. Coaches Melanie C, Ronan Keating, Richard Marx and Kate Miller-Heidke each added fresh recruits to their teams after a night of competitive chair turns.

Jakamo Sharpe, a 25-year-old primary school teacher from Melbourne, impressed all four coaches with his rendition of Måneskin’s Beggin’. Wearing bracelets made by his students, Sharpe joined Team Richard. “Way to blow the Blinds wide open. That was badass,” said Marx, while Ronan Keating told him, “You have no idea how good you are.”

Bianka Jakovljevic, a 16-year-old Year 11 student from Sydney and the youngest artist in the competition, also earned four chair turns with I See Red by Everybody Loves an Outlaw. She too chose Team Richard. “Bianka that was so mind blowing,” Marx said, adding that her mature and powerful voice had surprised him.

From Port Macquarie, 17-year-old Year 12 student Charlie O’Derry joined Team Kate after his performance of Djo’s End of Beginning. Kate Miller-Heidke described it as “breathtaking” and said he made her feel something she had never felt in her coach’s chair before.

Amber Scates, a 25-year-old performing artist and singing aerialist from Melbourne, received two chair turns with her version of Deee-Lite’s Groove Is in the Heart, choosing Team Kate. Miller-Heidke called the performance “joyful”, while Melanie C praised her ability to maintain pitch and energy throughout.

Brenton Kneen, 33, from Cooroibah, Queensland, who left his job four years ago to focus on music, impressed with his Bee Gees cover Stayin’ Alive. His four-chair turn ended with him joining Team Kate, who told him, “You’ve got a powerhouse voice… you’re your own artist.”

Cassie Henderson, a 26-year-old from Christchurch, New Zealand, closed the night with Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan, joining Team Melanie C after a four-chair turn. Henderson spoke of a long break from music following online backlash earlier in her career. “You are born to do this,” Melanie C told her.

The Voice Australia continues 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Seven and 7plus
