Key Points
- A television adaptation of The Soulmate is being developed by Made Up Stories, Imogen Banks, and Asher Keddie.
- Fiona Seres has been appointed as writer and showrunner, with multiple parties attached as executive producers.
- The project marks the second collaboration between Sally Hepworth and Made Up Stories.
The Soulmate is described as a mystery centred on marriage and betrayal, exploring the lengths people will go to for those they love. The novel achieved immediate commercial success, appearing as a New York Times bestseller and being selected as a Book of the Month, with The New York Times naming it among the best thrillers of the year.
The story follows Pippa and Gabe, a married couple living with their two young daughters in a picturesque home atop seaside cliffs. Since their arrival, Gabe has gained local attention for preventing several suicides at the cliffs. However, events take a turn when he is unable to save a woman named Amanda, leading to the unravelling of secrets that test the couple’s relationship.
In a statement, Made Up Stories commented:
“What a privilege to partner again with the incomparable Sally Hepworth for THE SOULMATE, which for us combines an intoxicating conceit with undeniable characters in Pippa, Gabe and Amanda.
Alongside friends and frequent collaborators Asher Keddie, Imogen Banks and Rob Weisbach, we are absolutely thrilled to develop this captivating adaptation of THE SOULMATE with the wildly talented Fiona Seres, and cannot wait to bring this enthralling interrogation of love’s complexities to audiences.”
Sally Hepworth also reflected on the collaboration:
“There’s a kind of magic in finding creative partners who are as passionate about your story as you are. That’s what I’ve found with Bruna, Steve, Katie and the team at Made Up Stories.
I’m so excited to be collaborating with them, and with Imogen, Asher, Rob and Fiona, to adapt THE SOULMATE — a novel that strives to dig deep into the layered, complicated truths about marriage, loyalty, and the secrets we keep from the people we love most.”
This adaptation follows the announcement last year of Made Up Stories optioning Hepworth’s novel Darling Girls. Sally Hepworth is represented by CAA and Rob Weisbach Creative Management.
