ABC boosts foreign reporting team with LAURA TINGLE appointment

Laura Tingle has been appointed the ABC’s new Global Affairs Editor, expanding the broadcaster’s international reporting team at a time of heightened global uncertainty.

Tingle, currently Political Editor at 7.30, will take on the new post mid-year, joining ABC News’ network of foreign correspondents to deliver expert analysis and reporting across all platforms.

Laura Tingle named ABC Global Affairs Editor

Laura Tingle, one of Australia’s most respected and accomplished journalists and commentators, is taking up a posting as the ABC’s Global Affairs Editor.

Global Affairs Editor is a key role in the ABC’s international reporting, contributing expert reporting and in-depth analysis of world events across all platforms and able to be deployed to enhance our coverage on the biggest global stories.

Tingle will work in News’ International team alongside our network of foreign correspondents, the Asia Pacific Newsroom and Foreign Correspondent. ABC NEWS has correspondents in 11 overseas locations and another seven local reporters based around our region under the Pacific Local Journalism Network.

Tingle has been with the ABC since 2018 as Political Editor for nightly current affairs flagship 7.30. Her 40-year career also includes being political editor of The Australian Financial Review and working forThe AustralianThe Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. Her awards include two Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

Of her new appointment, Laura Tingle said: 

“I’m exceptionally excited to have the opportunity to use my experience to report back to Australians on the big events around the world that also shape our nation.

“I started my journalistic career at a time when Australia and the world were being challenged and transformed by the forces of deregulation and the freeing up of global trade.

“Forty years on we are in even more uncertain times. It’s so important that the national public broadcaster has Australian eyes on the world putting the significance of major global events into context for local audiences.”

Tingle will take up the new post mid-year and ABC NEWS will be advertising for a new 7.30 Political Editor.
