Apple TV has today announced a new comedy drama starring Australian actress Toni Collette, with production underway in Sydney on Lenni.

The series marks another recent Apple TV production to film in Australia with a high-profile local lead, following the well-received thriller Last Seen, starring Patrick Brammall.

The series, based on the hit Norwegian show Pernille, sees the Academy Award nominee play a divorced social worker whose efforts to protect her family are complicated by tragedy and the chaos of everyday life.

Collette stars as Lenni, a child welfare worker and divorced mother of two who spends her days fighting for other people’s families while her own is in a constant state of chaos.

Described as a darkly comedic mystery about family, the series follows Lenni as she takes on a new case where the stakes couldn’t be higher, with her work and personal life colliding.

The series is adapted by Sarah Scheller (The Letdown, Strife) and directed by Emmy and BAFTA Award winner Dearbhla Walsh (Bad Sisters, Margo’s Got Money Troubles).

Joining Collette in the cast are Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones), Dan Wyllie (Love My Way), Josh McKenzie (La Brea), Celeste Barber (The Letdown), Genevieve Hegney (Colin From Accounts), Arka Das (The Airport Chaplain) and Wayne Blair (Total Control).

The largely Australian supporting cast joins Collette for the Sydney production, which is supported by the NSW Government through Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.

Lenni is produced for Apple TV by Made Up Stories and Keshet International, with executive producers including Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Katie Amos, Avi Nir, Keren Shahar, Scheller, Walsh and Collette.
