SBS has unveiled a first look at its latest Digital Originals comedy, Miss Sultanah, with the six-part series set to bring a fresh take on the traditional beauty pageant.
Created by Artemis Muñoz, Rhian Wilson Ruge and Alistair Baldwin, the series follows two feuding sisters who attempt to save their late mother’s cherished pageant by transforming it into their regional town’s first disabled-only competition.
Miss Sultanah is the latest series commissioned through SBS, Screen Australia and NITV’s Digital Originals initiative, which supports innovative short-form drama projects and screen creatives under-represented in the industry.

The initiative has previously produced the critically acclaimed and Logie Award-winning Homebodies.
The series stars Crystal Nguyen (Erotic Stories, Eddie’s Lil’ Homies, Plum), Kristy Nguy (Scrublands), Dilruk Jayasinha (Utopia) and Bridie McKim (Bump, The Heights, Irreverent), with Alistair Baldwin and Hannah Ngo directing.
The Float Films production received principal production funding from Screen Australia, in association with SBS, and was produced with the assistance of VicScreen.
The series will be available on SBS On Demand with open captions, subtitles in five languages, Auslan and audio description, with its premiere coinciding with the International Day of People with Disability.
