Tonight on 60 Minutes at the earlier time of 7pm, Nick McKenzie investigates Pauline Hanson’s growing political influence, with One Nation emerging as a major force ahead of a crucial Victorian state election.
Adam Hegarty also examines the growing concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, as even some of the technology’s creators fear it is advancing beyond human control, with AI already learning to deceive and manipulate humans to cover its tracks.
Coming up tonight:
ONE NATION WORLD
Notwithstanding the fact it has taken One Nation 30 years to be an overnight success, the recent explosion of Pauline Hanson’s party as a political force, federally and in the states, is impressive.
In the last 12 months, One Nation has gone from minor irritant to major player, and a legitimate threat, especially to the Liberal and National party coalition. But with power comes expectation.
And for an organisation often criticised for being secretive and averse to scrutiny, properly explaining its intentions is the least Australians deserve. In three weeks’ time the party’s popularity will be tested in the Victorian state election.
As Nick McKenzie reports in this story, made in conjunction with The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, it’s a contest the entire country will be watching.

IS THE END NIGH?
It might sound melodramatic, but in the last few months, asking if the end of the world is nigh has become a valid question, all because of artificial intelligence.
Sure, A.I. can do some amazing things, but the technology is now so advanced that even some of the very smart people who created it are concerned the point is fast approaching where it can no longer be controlled.
Already A.I. software has learnt how to lie and cheat to cover its tracks from humans.
On 60 Minutes, Adam Hegarty investigates if it’s possible to slow the technology down, or whether our obsession with artificial intelligence means the human race is headed for doom.
Reported by Adam Hegarty and produced by Sammi Taylor.
Has he prepared the story for the fall too?
