This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down.
Set at the birth of Instagram, Apple Cider Vinegar follows two young women who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, influencing their global online communities along the way. All of which would be incredibly inspiring if it were all true.
The story takes place at the birth of social media and follows two young women – Belle and Milla – who set out to cure their life-threatening illnesses through health and wellness, motivating their growing online communities along the way. All of which would be inspiring if it were true.
The series mirrors the experience of wellness-guru-turned-pariah Belle Gibson who sold a lie to the world that her special diet “cured” her from cancer. This was later revealed to the public be a lie, causing her empire to crumble around her.
The six episode limited series stars Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick, Unbelievable), Alycia Debnam-Carey (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Fear the Walking Dead), Aisha Dee (The Bold Type, Safe Home), Tilda Cobham-Hervey (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, I Am Woman), Ashley Zukerman (Succession), and Mark Coles Smith (Mystery Road: Origin). It was shot on location in Melbourne (with financial support from VicScreen through their Victorian Production fund). Apple Cider Vinegar is created by Samantha Strauss, and is directed by Jeffrey Walker (The Clearing, The Artful Dodger, Modern Family).
Executive Producers Liz Watts and Louise Gough said:
“Samantha Strauss has created a series that is searing in its comment but entertaining at its very core. It’s complex, it’s got bounce and it’s got bite, and we love it. We have a brilliant creative team under the fine leadership of director Jeffrey Walker and one of the best cast ensembles in an Australian production. This is a Melbourne story with a global reach.”

I can’t believe they have a character called Belle 😬
