Mark Robinson is leaving AFL 360 after 14 years. Find out what’s next for Fox Footy’s flagship show.
Mark Robinson looks set to step down from his role on AFL 360, signalling the end of a 14-year tenure on the popular Fox Footy show.
According to reports from News Corp, the Herald Sun’s chief football writer is expected to make his final appearance on Monday night during the traditional post-grand final episode of the program.
AFL 360, which airs on Fox Footy three nights a week—Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday—during the AFL season, has become the network’s flagship analysis show, featuring in-depth discussions with some of the sport’s top players and coaches.
Robinson’s departure coincides with persistent speculation surrounding his co-host, Gerard Whateley, who is rumoured to be moving to Channel 7 in 2025 as part of the network’s refreshed on-air line-up.
TV Blackbox understands Seven is keen to secure Whateley for a new Monday night football panel program.
The new show, set to be produced by Craig Hutchison‘s Rainmaker production company, will feature Seven’s newly recruited football commentators including Caroline Wilson, Kane Cornes, and Nick Riewoldt.
In addition to hosting the new panel show, Whateley is also tipped to join Seven‘s Thursday night football coverage, potentially calling games alongside Alister Nicholson and Kane Cornes.
In addition to his TV commitments, Whately also presents a daily radio show on the SEN network which is also controlled by Hutchison.
The possible move comes as Seven prepares for a significant shake-up in its AFL broadcasting, with the network set to air Thursday night football every week as part of the new television rights deal starting in 2025.
