The Big Cigar series tells the dramatic story of Huey Newton on Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ has unveiled the trailer for its much-anticipated limited series, The Big Cigar, featuring an ensemble cast including André Holland, Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, and others.
The series will premiere with its first two episodes on Friday, 17 May, continuing with weekly releases until 14 June.
The Big Cigar draws its narrative from a magazine article by Joshuah Bearman, known for Argo, who also contributes as an executive producer. The series highlights a significant chapter in American history, weaving the tale of Huey P. Newton, the Black Panther founder, and his dramatic evasion from the FBI to Cuba. The escape plan, devised alongside producer Bert Schneider, involves the facade of a movie production, leading to a series of mishaps and close calls.
Under the leadership of NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois and written by Jim Hecht, the series is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Barrois’s company, Folding Chair Productions, holds an overall deal with the studio. Other executive producers include Joshua Davis and Arthur Spector.
