Neighbours earns its first Daytime Emmy nominations, including a nod for Guy Pearce.
The iconic Australian soap opera Neighbours has achieved a significant milestone in its history by receiving its first-ever nominations for the Daytime Emmy Awards. Since its debut in 1985, Neighbours has garnered over 70 award nominations in Australia and the UK.
However, it only became eligible for the Daytime Emmy Awards in the US following a pivotal deal in late 2022 where Fremantle, the production company, partnered with Amazon to distribute the show internationally. This move came after the discontinuation of its broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK.
Neighbours is set to contend for the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series award, facing competition from established American soaps such as The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, and The Bay. The winners will be announced at the ceremony scheduled for Friday, June 7.
In addition to the show’s nomination, Guy Pearce, who made a special guest appearance on the series return, has been recognised with a nomination for Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series. He is listed among other notable nominees including Dick Van Dyke and will be competing against actors like:
- Linden Ashby as Cameron Kirsten, “The Young and the Restless” (CBS)
- Ashley Jones as Dr. Bridget Forrester, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (CBS)
- Alley Mills as Heather Webber, “General Hospital” (ABC)
- Guy Pearce as Mike Young, “Neighbours” (Amazon Freevee)
- Dick Van Dyke as Mystery Man/Timothy Robicheaux, “Days of our Lives” (Peacock)
Following a production pause, Neighbours resumed filming at the Nunawading studios in Melbourne in April last year, with a new season launching two years after its previous finale.
This latest season began airing in September, available on Network 10 in Australia and Amazon Freevee internationally.
