Tomorrow Sky News Australia will premiere a new short-form news program – NZ Edition – hosted by Sky News New Zealand Correspondent, Jack Nyhof.

The news of the NZ focused program comes at a time when the New Zealand media landscape is going through a turbulent time following a downturn in the advertising market.

Warner Bros. Discovery owned free-to-air station Three announced earlier this year it will shutter it’s Newshub news & current affairs division in early July this year, with recent news that it will be replaced by a Stuff produced news bulletin at 6pm, and will cease all local productions with the top boss Glen Kyne also confirmed to be departing the company.

State broadcaster TVNZ has not been immune to the challenges in the advertising downturn, with the network recently axing a number of programs from its news and current affairs line-up including the Midday & Tonight news bulletins, current affairs program Sunday, and consumer program Fair Go.

From Sky:

NZ Edition will broadcast from the Sky News Australia studio in Parliament House, Wellington, each Saturday at 3:45pm AEST, and will unpack the top New Zealand headlines and provide audiences with a preview of the key issues on the political agenda for the week ahead.

Featured in the premiere episode airing Saturday 4 May, Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon, will sit down with Nyhof to discuss the most pressing issues impacting the nation, including New Zealand’s foreign policy and place in the world, its relationships with Australia and China, plus the Government’s plan for cost-of-living relief.

“Sky News has a long history of reporting on and from New Zealand, and I’m excited to continue that legacy here from our Wellington Bureau and across the country.”
