This weekend, 60 Minutes tackles disability abuse and Tuvalu’s rising sea crisis.

Titled “Couldn’t Care Less,” the segment led by Tara Brown delves into harrowing allegations against disability support workers accused of mistreating a vulnerable individual under their care.

The report showcases deeply unsettling footage, described as some of the most shocking ever broadcast on Australian TV. According to Brown, the carers displayed a blatant disregard for their duties, wrongly believing their actions would remain hidden due to the victim’s inability to communicate.

The situation came to light thanks to the extraordinary measures taken by the victim’s parents. In a bold move, they installed a hidden camera which captured the distressing evidence of abuse, challenging the workers’ assumption of secrecy.

In a different feature titled, “Saving Paradise,” Adam Hegarty explores the environmental crisis facing Tuvalu, a picturesque strip of islands between Australia and Hawaii.

Despite its idyllic appearance, Tuvalu confronts the imminent danger of rising sea levels, threatening its very existence. Hegarty’s report highlights the innovative efforts by Australians to engineer a solution that could save the island, amidst the broader political and ecological implications.

60 Minutes: Allegations of Disability Abuse and Environmental Crisis in Tuvalu premieres Sunday 8:40pm 14 April, 2024 on Channel 9 and 9Now.

  1. I never get angry with commercial television as I know everything has an element sensationalism………until tonight. The disability support workers story made me sick to the stomach. In the court of public opinion these 3 so called carers should be put away for years. I would be the first to stand up and demand so.

  2. Sadly, more common than you think. I personally blame the NDIA and their internal staff, who do not allow choice, control and safeguards for the Participant. If they had, clearly all us victims would be hiring and paying the true support workers and not Agency Service Providers. NDIA Disability and My Aged Care Age Sectors are a scam only there to pay Organizations and our Government workers large amounts of money to abuse, harm, exploit, bully and disadvantage the vulnerable and their families, forcing us to be FREE SLAVE LABOUR to care and protect ourselves from these people. Proven in the number of complaints in both Aged and Disability Royal Enquiries, large number of QCAT and AAT and Federal Circuit Hearings and the 65 Professional Advocates and all these Steering Committees that serve themselves and not the vulnerable community. Here is a solution – pay the CARE GIVERS and GIVE THE MONEY DIRECTLY TO PARTICIPANTS AND FAMILIES TO HIRE THE RIGHT PEOPLE, so we don’t have to continue to report the INHOUSE CORRUPTION that we face daily without any support or protection. These are not support service packages, they are scammed by Inhouse Government and their Agency Service Providers misusing tax payers money to control and destroy the community.
