Screen Forever welcomes Magda Szubanski for a memorable lecture, celebrating her contributions to film and TV.
Screen Producers Australia (SPA) has unveiled that the esteemed comedian and actress Magda Szubanski is set to present the Hector Crawford Memorial Lecture at the forthcoming Screen Forever conference next month.
Over the last four decades, Szubanski has made significant contributions to both film and television, with notable performances in works such as Babe, Kath and Kim, and Fast Forward, among others. Her exceptional talent has been recognised with numerous awards, including a Mo Award, seven Logie Awards, and an AFI for Best Actress.
Szubanski’s memoir, Reckoning, published in 2015, offers a poignant exploration of her family history, personal growth, and sexuality. The memoir garnered critical acclaim, winning several prestigious awards including the Australian Industry Book Awards Book of the Year in 2016.
Beyond her contributions to entertainment, Szubanski has emerged as a leading voice in Australia’s LGBTQIA+ rights movement. Her advocacy was acknowledged in 2019 when she was named an Officer of the Order of Australia.
The Hector Crawford Memorial Lecture, a staple of the Screen Forever conference since 1992, pays tribute to Crawford’s impactful legacy and the vital role of independent production in enriching Australian culture.
SPA CEO Matthew Deaner praised Szubanski’s selection, highlighting her distinguished career and significant contributions to the performing arts as perfectly aligning with the lecture’s objectives.
