Following a successful tour across Australia with a live version of this much-loved quiz, Gleeson is back in the ABC studios, challenging a fresh group of self-proclaimed experts to what could be the toughest quiz on television, and possibly the planet.
The premiere episode sees Gleeson host a remarkable contest. Experts in their chosen fields – Jack (a Godzilla aficionado), Ange (devoted to Marilyn Monroe), Andrea (a Swan Lake enthusiast), and Jon (passionate about the whale shark) – face off in an unparalleled quiz battle for the Big Brass Mug.
Hard Quiz invites four Australians each episode who stand out for their intense passion for a specific topic. These contestants battle it out, demonstrating their expertise against the famously irritable host to win the title of Hard Quiz Champion and the cherished Big Brass Mug.
The diversity of subjects brought by contestants ranges from popular movies and music to historical events, nature, video games, and even niche cultural topics, ensuring every episode is filled with surprises. Contestants must also navigate Tom’s special mystery round, adding an unpredictable twist to the competition.
The ninth season of Hard Quiz features three special episodes titled ‘Duds’, where returning contestants get a second chance to impress the audience after their early exits in previous appearances.
