NINE Launches OLYMPIC Year with Winter Youth Games in GANGWON

Nine will kick off its Olympic and Paralympic Games year with the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 in South Korea.

The event’s Opening Ceremony is set to be broadcast live and free on the 9Network this Friday, January 19. Audiences can view the competition on 9Go! or stream it on 9Now.

The 12-day sports extravaganza will showcase 1900 young athletes from 70 nations, including Team Australia. This event marks the fourth Winter Youth Olympic Games and will be held near Seoul, in Gangwon. The competition spans across seven sports, encompassing 15 disciplines and 81 events.

Nine ensures comprehensive coverage of the Games, offering daily highlight packages on 9Go!, 9Gem, and 9Now. Specific highlights focusing on Australian athletes will be available on 9Now, providing viewers with a detailed look at the country’s most promising teenage athletes.

The Australian team is set to feature 53 athletes competing in various sports including biathlon, ice hockey, short track speed skating, figure skating, alpine skiing, cross country skiing, freestyle skiing, and snowboard.

In a significant first for Australia, Kryshtof Pradeaux and Peyton Bellamy-Martins will participate in the figure skating pairs event. Additionally, Sienna Kaczmarczyk will represent Australia in the women’s figure skating singles, a first since the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games.

The Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 will be broadcast as follows:

  • The Opening Ceremony will be shown live and exclusively on 9Go! on Friday, January 19 at 9.55pm AEDT, with a repeat airing the next day.
  • The Closing Ceremony will be broadcast live and exclusively on 9Gem on Thursday, February 1 at 9.55pm AEDT.
  • Daily highlights will be available on 9Go! from Sunday, January 21 to Friday, February 2 at 1pm AEDT.
  • 9Now will feature the Best Moments from Team Australia every morning following each evening’s events.
