Uncertain Future for ‘Vera’ as Brenda Blethyn Reveals No New Plans
The future of the beloved British detective series, Vera, hangs in the balance, according to the series’ lead actress, Brenda Blethyn.
In a recent interview with The Mirror in the UK, Blethyn disclosed that, as of now, there are no concrete plans for the continuation of the series beyond the three upcoming episodes. “At the moment there’s nothing planned,” she stated, leaving fans in suspense about the long-running show’s fate.
Blethyn didn’t completely shut the door on Vera‘s future, though.
She hinted at ongoing discussions, suggesting that while a full new series might be off the table, a conclusive wrap-up could be in the works.
“But that’s not to say they’re not talking about it. There might be a winding up. I don’t know,“
Blethyn revealed. She also mentioned the impending release of author Ann Cleeves‘ 11th Vera book, which could influence the show’s trajectory.
In 2023, Vera stood out as one of the highest-rated dramas on Australian television. ABC has already aired all of Season 12 and is scheduled to broadcast the three new episodes from Season 13 in 2024.
Meanwhile, Channel 7 has acquired the rights to repeat previous seasons of this hugely popular drama, ensuring that Vera‘s legacy continues in Australian homes.
