A fresh horror anthology titled Night Bloomers is making its debut just in time for the spookiest night of the year.

Premiering on Saturday, 28 October at 9:30 pm on SBS VICELAND, viewers will also be able to stream all episodes on SBS On Demand soon after its telecast.

This chilling series finds its roots in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and is a collaboration under SBS/NITV and Screen Australia’s Digital Originals initiative. It boasts a star-studded cast featuring Ra Chapman (Wentworth), Deborah An (Harrow), Helen Kim (Doctor Doctor), Joshua Park (The Messenger), Rayden Casano, Jaewoo Kim, Clara Kim (Troppo), Jeno Kim (Appetite), Charles An (Last King of the Cross), and Cooper Mortlock.

Taking inspiration from the experiences of the Australian Korean diaspora, Night Bloomers delves deep into multigenerational stories. The series masterfully blends modern renditions of ancient Korean folklore with supernatural beliefs rooted in Korean Shamanism.

Viewers will be transported to a spine-chilling universe where heroes, shaped by the scars of war and migration, grapple with their own identities. Their personal battles with mortality and deep-seated desires give rise to terrifying entities which the ensemble must confront.

“Each hero faces mortality in a unique way, coupled with a deep yearning that manifests in malevolent forms of evilness that the ensemble of characters must overcome collectively. If not, the goblins, ghosts and creatures that live in and around them will continue to devour the community.”

The show’s creation, direction, writing, and production credits go to Andrew Undi Lee (Melon Grab, Troppo, Born to Spy). The series is co-produced by Ashlea Ritchie (Melon Grab) for Turn About Entertainment. The creative minds behind this eerie anthology also comprise executive producers Michael McMahon (Clickbait, Nowhere Boys) and Arts & Cultural Exchange’s Barry Gamba (Carla & Lisa’s Countdown), with additional writing from Ra Chapman (White Fever), Jacob Holmes-Brown, and Suzanne Soo Hyun Kim, who took the helm for one of the episodes.

Night Bloomers has garnered recognition, being invited to SXSW Sydney to grace their esteemed TV Premieres section. The series secured its principal production funds from Screen Australia in partnership with SBS, enjoying the backing of Screen NSW and development assistance from Screen Australia and SBS.

For viewers seeking accessibility, Night Bloomers offers audio descriptions and subtitles in five languages: Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. Night Bloomers is set to send shivers down your spine on Saturday 28 October at 9.30pm on SBS VICELAND and SBS On Demand.
