The Seven Network are due to unveil their 2024 content slate this week to advertisers and media as part of the South by Southwest Sydney 2023 event, staged in ‘Seven House’ right in the heart of the SXSW Sydney precinct.

The event will span content offerings across Seven’s suite of channels including Channel 7, 7Plus, 7two, 7mate, 7Bravo and 7flix, and TV Blackbox will of course be sharing all of the news from the event live as it happens.

Here’s what we know so far;

Confirmed as returning in 2024:

Australian Idol with Marcia Hines joining as a permanent judge next season, Dancing With The Stars with returning host Sonia Kruger and new co-host Dr. Chris Brown, The Voice season 13, My Kitchen Rules which is currently casting now for another season, First Dates which returns after a brief run on rival Channel 10 and the 64th TV Week Logie Awards.

Shows expected to return in 2024:

Farmer Want a Wife with new co-host Sam Armytage, SAS Australia which is currently on-air now, RFDS which recently wrapped up it’s 2nd season, new episodes of This Is Your Life hosted by Melissa Doyle, The Front Bar, Highway Patrol and Border Security: Australia’s Front Line.

Plus all of the networks’ regular staples including 7NEWS bulletins, Sunrise, The Morning Show, The Chase Australia, Home & Away, Better Homes & Gardens, The Latest from 7NEWS and 7NEWS Spotlight.

New shows already announced for 2024:

Dream Home, as first revealed by TV Blackbox is a new “renovation competition where the great Australian dream is transformed into the great Australian dream home”, based on a NZ format and also hosted by Dr. Chris Brown.

Stranded on Honeymoon Island Australia, from the creators of Married at First Sight, sees couples matched by experts following an extraordinary dating event, before being sensationally stranded on a deserted island in nothing but their wedding attire.

Plus an as yet unnamed project again hosted by Dr. Chris Brown, described as “a spectacular new adventure series, taking in some of he most mind-blowing scenery on the planet, all in pursuit of the ultimate animal encounter in the experience of a lifetime”.

King Con, this two-part series tells the story of Australian businessman Hamish McLaren, who conned some US$70m out of investors around the world. Already sold in other territories including Paramount in the UK for Channel 5/Paramount+, the show will be produced by Perpetual Entertainment.

No word however on these previously announced series:

Ultimate Escape, announced in February this year as “coming to Seven and 7Plus in 2023”, based on the hit Finnish format created by Rabbit Films there has been no word on this series since the network announced it had commissioned the series from producer HELIUM.

Australia’s Got Talent, originally announced as returning in 2023, the network later confirmed earlier this year that no decision had been made on another season. Given the network is already producing other talent shows including Australian Idol and The Voice, it remains to be seen whether the network will commit to any further seasons.

Kitchen Nightmares Australia, also announced at the networks 2023 Upfronts event last year, it was then later confirmed that no plans had been made to produce and air another season this year and was quite an expensive show.

Fam Time, the 2020 sitcom starring Michala Banas, Benson Jack Anthony, Duncan Fellows and Rhonda Burchmore, has yet to see the light of day. The network indicated earlier this year that it was under consideration for Q1 but nothing further has been heard of this series since then. How bad can it be?

Not expected to return next year:

The shows not expected to return next year include Blow Up Australia, Million Dollar Island and We Interrupt This Broadcast, which all failed to find an audience earlier this year in their inaugural seasons.

Still to come in 2023:

New Big Brother set to return to screens soon, The 1% Club which returns this Sunday night with remaining episodes from S1 and new episodes from S2, and unaired episodes of Animals Abroad with Dr. Harry which was pulled from the schedule after only 3 episodes.

7’s Upfronts are this Wednesday 18th October 2023 at 5:00pm AEDT.
