In a nod to the upcoming NAIDOC week festivities, ABC has revealed that it will be screening the critically acclaimed film “Limbo” on Sunday, 9 July 2023, at 8:30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
This atmospheric outback noir is the latest offering from renowned Indigenous filmmaker Ivan Sen, best known for his works “Mystery Road” and “Goldstone”.
The film presents an affecting exploration of grief and the influence of the justice system on Aboriginal families in Australia.
“Limbo” features a stellar Australian ensemble, headed by actor-director Simon Baker of “The Mentalist” and “Breath” fame.
He’s accompanied by Rob Collins, known for his roles in “Total Control” and “Mystery Road”, and Natasha Wanganeen, who starred in “Rabbit Proof Fence” and “Cargo”.
The narrative of “Limbo” follows Travis (Baker), a cynical detective, who arrives in the isolated outback town of Limbo to reinvestigate the two-decade-old unsolved murder of Indigenous girl Charlotte Hayes. As the facts of the case begin to emerge, Travis gains a fresh perspective from the victim’s divided family, the remaining witnesses, and the reclusive brother of the primary suspect.
“Limbo” is a product of the combined efforts of David Jowsey, Rachel Higgins, Greer Simpkin, and Ivan Sen, who also wrote and directed the film. The production is financed in collaboration with Screen Queensland and the South Australian Film Corporation. The film’s executive producers are Simon Baker, Cecilia Ritchie, and David Chiem, with Sally Riley and Andrew Gregory from ABC holding the role of executive producers.
