FOXTEL and BINGE, in partnership with Screenwest, has officially confirmed the greenlighting of the second season of the acclaimed series, The Twelve, for production in Western Australia.

The Twelve is a crime drama featuring a contentious murder trial viewed through the jurors’ perspective. The jurors are 12 average Australians grappling with their individual realities and challenges.

Season one of The Twelve earned high acclaim from critics, garnered ten nominations and won three AACTA Awards in 2022, including Best Miniseries. It was also the most nominated drama series at the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards. The Australian series has been marketed in several global territories.

The cast for the second season is not confirmed yet, but the first season boasted a remarkable cast including Sam Neill, Marta Dusseldorp, Brooke Satchwell, Brendan Cowell, Matt Nable, and Kate Mulvany.

The second season will consist of 8 one-hour episodes authored by Sarah Walker, Anchuli Felicia King, Anya Beyersdorf, and Anna Barnes.

The series will be directed by Stevie Cruz-Martin, Ben Young, and Mark Joffe, and produced by Hamish Lewis, Michael Brooks, Ian Collie, Ally Henville, and Rob Gibson.

The move to produce a second season has been facilitated by the WA Production Attraction Incentive launched last year.

Alison Hurbert-Burns, BINGE Executive Director, confirmed that BINGE will bring The Twelve to Western Australia with production commencing soon.

“WA we are coming! BINGE is bringing The Twelve, one of Australia’s most premium and awarded drama series, to Western Australia with production set to begin in the coming months.

We can’t wait to be on ground working with local creatives and talent to bring this gripping series to life, showcasing Perth along with the incredible WA countryside.”

Michael Brooks, Managing Director of Warner Bros. International Production Australia, affirmed their enthusiasm for producing Australian stories for global audiences, highlighting the importance of partnerships for success.

“We are passionate about producing great Australian stories for audiences around the world and it takes incredible partnerships to deliver on that promise.

We welcome the support of Screenwest and together with the talented team at BINGE, we look forward to delighting fans across the globe with another thrilling series of The Twelve.”

The WA Production Attraction Incentive aims to draw high profile, market-oriented screen productions to Western Australia. This, in conjunction with the State’s $105M election commitment to build a world-class film studio in Perth, is promoting Western Australia as a desirable filming destination.

Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO, welcomed The Twelve to WA, noting the potential for substantial expansion of the WA Screen sector over the next two years. WA Premier Roger Cook expressed his excitement about attracting a high-quality series like The Twelve to film in Western Australia, considering it a significant result of the WA Production Attraction Incentive.

It received major production investment from Screenwest and the Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive. Global distribution of the series will be handled by Fifth Season.

The Twelve season two will be accessible on Fox Showcase and available for streaming On Demand on FOXTEL and BINGE.
