Channel 9 and 9Now will celebrate the life and legacy of Australia’s greatest entertainer, Barry Humphries, in a special program titled “Barry Humphries: A Life of Laughs,” airing Wednesday night at 8:30pm.
Liz Hayes will host the show, reflecting on the comic brilliance and lasting impact of Humphries, who passed away last week at the age of 89.
Born in Melbourne suburbia, Humphries enjoyed a remarkable career spanning 70 years, from the mid-1950s debut of his iconic character Dame Edna Everage to his final performances. A master comedian and marketing genius, Humphries effortlessly promoted his characters in every interview.
In “A Life of Laughs,” Hayes will delve into Humphries’ personal archives, featuring rare footage and clips from his entire career, showcasing the unique wit and staying power of a performer without peer. Hayes will share personal anecdotes and memories of interviewing the unpredictable Humphries, who always kept reporters on their toes.
