Channel 7 is set to bring the glitz and glamour of TV’s biggest night to sin city in July.
It’s been almost four decades since the TV Logie Awards were last held in Sydney and now the awards ceremony is set to return on Sunday July 30.
Channel 7 shocked the industry when the network swooped in and obtained the rights to the event in September.
At the time Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said:
“The TV WEEK Logie Awards are more than television’s night of nights; they are a treasured Australian institution and a celebration of Australia’s love of television.
Before Nine became the exclusive broadcast partner in 1995 the awards were shared between all networks on a rotating basis.
In January it became obvious the Logies would not be held in Queensland again when the State Government announced a new partnership with the AACTA awards. Those awards will be held on the Gold Coast for the next three years.
News Corp reports a venue is still to be announced, although The Star is seen as the most likely home of this year’s event.
Warburton told the outlet:
“The time was right to find a new home for the Logies and bringing them back to Sydney after more than 30 years made perfect sense,
“Australia’s TV networks and many of its major production companies are based in Sydney and the city provides a backdrop for some of the country’s most popular TV shows. Seven has exciting plans for the Logies.”
Seven has the exclusive rights to broadcast the Logies for the next five years.
